Watson's is excited to announce our exclusive partnership with Maureen Watt, a Certified Guide Dog and Service Dog Trainer, who has dedicated many years in service with various organizations across Canada. This includes: work as a volunteer Puppy Raiser/Trainer and paid contractor with C.O.P.E. Service Dogs; and several years with the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog  Programs in Ontario.  Maureen and her dog "Dash" are active volunteers with the  U.B.C.O.  B.A.R.K. Student Retention Program, where she  assists with the annual handler/dog team assessment.  She and "Dash" founded the  Okanagan Regional Library Reading Buddy programs for children at the West Bank and Rutland Branches and are active volunteers in the Paws to Read program in the Mission. She is currently a volunteer with Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADs) and hopes to begin work with her latest service puppy-in-training this spring.  Maureen also works with private clients to help them with the training needs of their family dogs.

Puppy Start Right Foundation Training (8 weeks-16 weeks)
The Puppy Start Right curriculum ensures you and your puppy have all the skills you need to get off to a great start.We're here to help you get off to a positive start by providing you with the basic manners every puppy needs to know and show you how to keep the momentum of learning going.

Puppy Foundation includes:

  • Follow The Leader- Loose leash walking
  • Coming When Called
  • Greeting Our Guests - No jumping please, go to YOUR SPOT
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Remain In Place (Stays & Wait until released)
  • Trade Please - That's not good for you
  • Touch Me Please! Introduction and Guide to Handling your puppy
  • Introduction to Hand Signals, Adding Verbal Cues
  • Introduction to Target Training
  • Fun Tricks

PLUS we'll also offer guidance during your session in the areas of puppy nipping; teaching bite inhibition, appropriate play, appropriate chewing, crate training, potty training on cue, and how to socialize with ease and safety.

Class Size: Maximum 6 participants

Time Commitment: 6 weeks of consecutive 1 hour long classes 

Tuition: $185 plus GST

Age Group: 5 months & older

Canine Foundations The Lifestyle Manners Program
Social Obedience - Learning Everyday Life Skills     
You work at the Level that best suits your needs & goals.

The Basic Levels
We have collected 10 of the most basic behaviours our dogs need to learn to be confident and well mannered canine companions. 
- Name Game                                  - Sit
- Polite Loose Leash Walking         - Leave It/Take It
- Settle (On Your Bed)                     - Down
- Capturing & Shaping Games        - Targeting
- Boundary Respect (Don't rush the door)
- Recalls

These behaviours have been divided into 4 different Levels to address the specific needs and learning speeds of each owner and dog.

Class Size: Maximum 6 participants
